The Quilters Cake

This sheet cake was created for the 90th birthday of an extraordinary woman at the request of her loving family.  The cake was designed as a replica of a beautiful quilt made by the guest of honor.   All of the details were drawn onto the fondant by hand with edible food paints to create a realistic patchwork where the individual brush strokes actually mimic the effects of each piece of thread.

And here is the guest of honor herself posing with the cake.  You can see the original quilt in her background with the quilt cake in miniature.  It certainly was a difficult cake to cut into with all of the details, but you can bet it tasted delicious!

Our thanks to the wonderful Alma Heer-Hood for the courtesy of placing her picture on here as well as displaying her amazing craftsmanship with the quilt.  And a thank you to Sharmen Wright for the photographs.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar with food allergies!

This is an allergy safe cake made for a little boy turning three years old!  This delicious, dense, chocolate cake was created with dairy-free, wheat gluten free, egg free, and corn free ingredients.  The Very Hungry Caterpillar loved the cake and at the end of the day was no longer very hungry.

He was so excited!

The Squid and the Whale

Here is a cake made for an 8 year old boy in love with squids.  So naturally a squid and whale cake suited him perfectly!  He was surprised and thrilled to have such a wonderful cake.  The inside tasted great with soft and velvety chocolate.  Yum!

Dora the Explorer Birthday Cake

Here is a delicious Dora the Explorer birthday cake my sister made for my daughter turning one.  It was deliciously moist and the frosting was excellent.  The best part was she got to keep the doll for continuous memories!

It was naturally a BIG hit with everyone!

Argh Me' Matey's and Dinosaurs: A series of Volcano Island Cakes.

Here are two cakes made in very similar styles.  The first is a set made for a seven year old boy's birthday.  He loves dinosaurs and this cakey Cretaceous creation was a hit all the way.  The inner volcano is hollow and allowed for a spot to place dry ice for a misty effect.

This second set of photographs is for a Pirate themed Volcano Cake.  Similarly made this cake was created for another boy's dream seven year old birthday.  A buried treasure was created within the cake for the child to dig out of his own special piece.  X-marks the spot!  As with the other cake a volcano hole allows for a candle flame or piece of dry ice placed carefully in a small container with water for a misty effect.

Computer Cake

This particular cake was incredibly time consuming but the end result proved an effort well worth it!  This laptop computer was created for a techie.  It was a huge hit!  The laptop is completely edible with exception of the image on the screen and placed on top of a sheet cake to feed more people.  It was a huge success!
